THE HEALTHIEST AND MOST PRODUCTIVE WAY TO SIT

Optimum seat is two-part (divided) swinging and precisely anatomically designed two-parted (gap in the middle) saddle chair.

Best way to use it is with periods of standing (10-30 % of the time, 10-20 min periods) and frequent (2-3 times/h) walking. Truly loose and lofty clothing in the pelvic, e-table with padded elbow rests and only slightly descending monitor viewing fulfill the optimum ergonomics.

The riding-like sitting this way prevent and heal common sitting problems SD (Sitting Disorders) like back pains, fatigue, poor posture, slow circulation, internal pelvic and genital health problems etc.
Sitting Health based on Salli Sitting Health concept improves health awareness in general, which has multiple positive effects on the whole body, health and energy.
Traditional 90/90 sitting (or rather C/90 sitting because the back is always rounded) has proven to be uncomfortable, unhealthy, harmful and unpractical in many ways and very expensive because of all the problems. Despite of development of chairs during decades, the problems have remained.

How to sit on a divided swinging saddle chair

The thighs are spread out and pointing 45 degrees downwards. The sitting bones, not muscles, carry the weight of the body on both sides of the seat gap. The back forms a natural standing posture and the feet rest firmly on the floor on both sides of the chair.
In this position the back will not become tired and body/ chair mobility is excellent.

RS is much healthier, more productive and comfortable than the traditional sitting style, because:

  • The back is active, circulation is good (swinging seat mechanism), back muscles and posture improves.
  • Sciatic pains in the lower back diminish or disappear.
  • Tension and pain in the shoulder – neck area is relieved.
  • Fluid (blood and lymph) circulation to the lower limbs revives.
  • Breathing deepens, leading to increased amount of oxygen in the body.
  • “Roll and reach” activity is very easy, fast and fun.
  • Sitting down and standing up is easy, fast and safe for the knees.
  • The table top height required for saddle sitting is also good for standing.
  • Risk of arthritis in the knee and hip joints decreases.
  • RS suits for many tasks which are traditionally done standing up.
  • It is easy to change position, move and stretch on.
  • It is easy to attach profession specific accessories to a Salli.
  • RS uphold good = standing like posture that becomes naturally
  • Divided saddle seat improve health in the genitals (lower temp. humidity, pressure) and internal pelvic organs (pressure – circulation)
  • The looks improve as the buttocks are no longer flattened, posture is good, chest / breasts come higher and legs grow slimmer.

Optimum use of table with divided saddle chair

Sitting on a divided saddle chair wearing totally pressure less clothing is the healthiest way of sitting.

In a good sitting position the weight of the body should rest not only on the feet and pelvis but also partly on the elbows. The best way of doing this is the deep socket (belly pocket) on the table, which provides a support to the elbows directly under the shoulders. The sides need to be comfortably padded and near the body. This keeps the shoulders relaxed and rehabilitates the lower back.

Rational table type is an e-table (electrically adjustable). Optimum heights for reading and writing differ by 3-5 centimeters (1-2 inches). The heights in the morning are different than the heights in the afternoon, since the spine shortens during the day. Standing is also a good alternative 15 – 20 min. at the time max 2 hours a day. More may be a risk for the hip / knee joints.

Applying riding-like sitting

Riding-like sitting can be applied everywhere from day-care centers to nursing homes, from schools to factories and clinics to concert halls. A common misconception is that the saddle chair can only be used part-time, even though the situation is completely opposite.

A physiologically advantageous sitting position is always easier and healthier than the disadvantageous. The back does not need to be rested on the backrest since it will not strain, as is the case with the conventional slouching sitting position. Those who do not use saddle chairs do not always know this. Even long days of sitting are possible without strain if the saddle chair environment is properly designed. A lot of evidence and good feedback is available on the benefits of Salli.

There are always better and worse saddle chairs available, which is the case in other furniture as well. It is not easy for the Average Joe or Jane to tell the difference between a high-quality chair and a cheaper version with just a short try or by listening to the sales speeches. The essential factor in the quality of the seat is the design; it should not put pressure on the buttocks, inner thighs or genitalia. In this light the divided seat is quite necessary for men. Other essential quality factors include the padding and upholstery materials (breathable, not too soft). One should also pay attention to the quality and materials of the chair frame, base and castors (steel frame, big easy-rolling castors and practical-sized base).

Economic effects of riding-like position

By investing in riding-like sitting furniture and accessories you invest in your health.

Good riding-like sitting furniture costs the same amount as other high-quality furniture, but they prevent ailments and increase the productivity of work 20 – 100 % of percent, also by adding active working years. The overall investment including the table is no bigger than with conventional but Salli quality lasts easily over 10 years.

Even the slightest increase in the productivity of work will surpass this in hundredfold. The reasons behind not using good furniture are not economical or rational, but (traditionally) prejudiced. In reality, organizations have a hard time finding a more profitable investment than changing the traditional and problematic work sitting into a riding-like sitting by getting high-quality furniture into the work place.

Challenges of riding-like sitting method

If carried out properly, riding-like sitting is a revolution. It demands, however, the understanding of the method, only then is it possible to become motivated. The physical adaptation can be slightly uncomfortable and take some days but varies individually.

Sitting disorders (SD) are poorly recognized and the methods and benefits of riding-like sitting are not commonly known. Spreading the word on this advantageous method is slowed down by prejudice, lack of knowledge and the tough competition among the producers of the traditional furniture. Poor-quality knockoffs have been a disappointment for many consumers. A good saddle chair salesperson also has to be a good sitting consultant, who helps the customers in optimizing their sitting environment and gives advice and support in getting used to new furniture.
